If you walk to Rome on the via Francigena you can receive the Testimonium (which means testimony, evidence or proof) in a similar fashion to the Compostela.
To receive the Testimonium from St Peter’s Basilica in Rome you have to walk at least 140km to Rome (which would mean starting from Aquapendente) on foot or horse or have ridden 400km by bike (which would be from Lucca).
The Testimonium is issued at the rectory in St Peter’s Basilica which is open every day from 9:30 until 12:30 and here accounts differ - either the office is closed Wednesday and Sunday or on Tuesday. Take a photocopy of your pilgrim passport so that if you cannot locate Don Bruno you can leave this and your if you leave your address on a stamped addressed envelope to get your Testimonium sent by post. This certificate is only available if you walk for religious reasons alone (and only to single Pilgrims or those in small groups).
If this is not the case a certificate can be requested from the Opera Romana Pellegrinaggi if you walk to Rome for religious or cultural reasons. For this you have to walk at least the last 100km and present your credential at the office of Opera Romana Pellegrinaggi in Piazza Pio XII, Saint Peter’s Square from 12 until 5pm.
