'Don't STOP Walking' badge found!!

When I walked the Pilgrim's Way from Winchester to Dover in the summer of 2014 I wore my 'Don't Stop Walking' badge that I made for when me, Dad and Becky walked the Camino Portuguese in Easter that year and my badge dropped off my bag never to be seen I thought until today when I was unoccupied at work and looking at Camino pictures and found that someone had found it (boy is that a long sentence but I am rather excited right now!)

I have put a comment on the page asking if they picked up the badge and if so offering a new one for its return - I doubt that they did pick it up but then again I never thought that I would see the badge again so you never know! If I hear anything then I will keep you posted.

The post I wrote about the badges originally can be found at http://footprintsonthecamino.blogspot.co.uk/2014/04/dont-stop-walking.html

  1. Hello Rachael

I hope you're well. I have indeed got the badge still - it's pinned next to a photo of me and my siblings having completed the walk (and having raised £12,500 for charity!). I would be very happy, though, to return it to you. I apologise for calling into question your dedication on the blog - clearly, you're very much the opposite! How did you come across our blog? I haven't looked at it since September - it was just set up for the walk we did. If you send me your address via email to awilkinsons@gmail.com, I'll send you the badge. I think it's a great idea to have made them - should I embark on something similar again, I might do something similar.

I look forward to hearing from you!

The Camino Primitivo

The Camino Primitivo (or the Original Way) is reportedly the very first Camino Way to Santiago in the 9 th century when most of Spain was under the control of the Moors and it runs from near the city of Ovideo in Asturias as it starts in Villavicosa (which also lies on the Camino Norte so many people follow this Way from   Basque city of San Sebastian (Donosti in Basque) or in from the French border at Irun ( this route then hugs the Bay of Biscay passing through Guernica, Bilbao, Santander, Llanes before going under the Picos de Europa and then heads along the coast to Ovideo) before branching off onto the Primitivo which goes across the mountains and through the city of Lugo before joining the Frances at Melide. The route is 320km long. Image taken from https://viaalpina2013.wordpress.com/2013/04/14/camino-del-norte-camino-primitivo/

Symbols of the three main Christian Pilgrimages

The symbol of the Pilgrim to Santiago is the Scallop shell  of which many can be found on the coast of Galicia and it is actually a symbol of the Pilgrimage (and has become a symbol of other Christian Pilgrimages too) partly because you could find the shell easily there and so could go back home and show it off as proof that you had done the Pilgrimage. It has also been included in carvings in some Churches.

Camino Mascot

Those who have walked the Camino will probably have seen one or more of the Camino mascots along the Way but do you know their names? http://m.elcorreogallego.es/xacobeo/ecg/xubi-jubila-pelegrin-mascota-xacobea/idEdicion-2010-06-08/idNoticia-555962/
